Grounded Notes is a twice-weekly letter for people who are learning to trust their body again. Written by Sinead Kelly — nervous system practitioner and creator of The GROUND Method™.

There's a thing that happens in kinesiology sessions that I never get tired of.

We follow a feeling. Not a thought. A feeling. And we trace it down.

Past the surface behaviour. Past the reasonable explanation. Past the story the client has been carrying about themselves for years. All the way to the basement belief that's been quietly running the whole show.

A few weeks ago, we followed a feeling that started here:
I can't spend money on myself.
It seemed like a practical thing. A budgeting habit. Maybe a little frugality.

But when we traced it:
➡️ Spending on myself means I'm wasting money
➡️ Wasting money means I'm selfish.
➡️ Being selfish means I'm a bad person.
➡️ Being a bad person means I'm not lovable.
➡️ Not being lovable means I'll be alone

That's not a budgeting issue.
That's a nervous system story running in the background of every financial decision she's ever made.

And it wasn't only money. The same loop showed up in how she received rest. Compliments. Care. The moment anything good arrived, the system immediately routed it outward.

She hadn't bought clothes that fit her body in years. Not because she couldn't afford them. Because her body didn't feel allowed to exist as it was, right now.

When the basement belief shifts, the surface behaviour shifts with it.
That's the O in the GROUND Method. Observe.
Not the story you tell about yourself, but the belief underneath it.
Watching the loop from one step outside.

Because you can't change what you can't see.
But once you can see it, things start to move.

Something to sit with this week.

Is there a behaviour in your life that's always puzzled you? A pattern that makes no logical sense?

What if it's not who you are, but a loop the nervous system learned?

What might be at the bottom of it?

X, Sinead

P.S. If you want support following your own loop all the way down, this is exactly the work we do. Explore the pathways here: Work With Me

If everything looks good but you feel empty, you’re not alone. I share nervous-system tools, tiny experiments, and stories from the clinic—no fluff, no overwhelm.
